Major descriptions

Bioscience is a full-English-teaching discipline with both international standards and the “Aeronautics”, “Astronautics” and “Marine Science and Technology” characteristics of NPU. The object of the Bioscience discipline is to educate undergraduate students with fundamental theories of biological science, experimental skills and capability for international communications. The major courses include Higher Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Ecology, Zoology, etc. The courses will be lectured with standard international teaching materials and the teaching staff includes international teachers or well-known experts. The Bachelor of Science degree will be awarded after a successful four-year study.

Description of School of life Sciences

School of Life Sciences was originally established asFaculty of Life Sciences in April 2004. It has been officially renamed to School of Life Sciences and became the 15th academic school of the university in March 2010. The mission of the school includes serving the national demands in the field of Aeronautics, Astronautics, and Marine Sciences as well as facilitating the inter-discipline and cutting-edge scientific researches in both fundamental sciences and engineering. The school is dedicated to be an distinctive and worldwide-famous platform for personal training and scientific research.

There are 75 employees currently in the school, and 52 of them are academic teachers (all with doctoral degree) including 12 professors, 23 associate professors, 16 lecturers or assistant professors and 1 post-doctor. In addition, there are 11 PhD supervisors and 26 master supervisors for receiving potential master and PhD candidates.

The established international student disciplines in School of Life Sciences include the Master Program in Biology, and the Master and PhD Program in Biomedical Engineering. At the moment, there are 9 international students enrolled in 2016 and 1 student enrolled in 2015.

The School of Life Sciences possesses several leading research platforms including Key Laboratory for Space Bioscience and Biotechnology, Institute of Special Environmental Biophysics, Teaching Experiment Center, and public platform which is fully equipped with various research facilities (¥52 M).

The school values its international collaborations. The school has established close relationships with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS, Japan), Food and Drug Administration (USA), and more than 10 other universities in the field of students training, scientific research, sharing research platforms, etc.
