​Lab of the NPU-UAB joint laboratory of bone metabolism

The laboratory has 36 staff members, including 1 professor, 2 associate professors, 5 lecturers, 2 post-doctors, 15 doctoral students, and 11 master students. It is a young and energetic research team.

 

The research direction of the laboratory mainly includes non-coding RNA and osteoporosis, special environmental bone biomechanics MACF1 and bone formation, electromagnetic radiation biology and so on.

 

The research laboratory has a strong research atmosphere, and holds regular intra-group academic seminars every week. At the same time, it conducts irregular discussions and exchanges on different research directions and specific topics within the group. In addition, members of the laboratory actively participated in academic conferences at home and abroad, including the American Association of Bone Minerals (ASBMR), the International Chinese Association of Osteopathic Research (ICMRS), the Conference on Space Biology, and the Academic Conference of the Society of Cell Biology. Frontiers, open up scientific research horizons, get to know research partners, and promote exchanges and cooperation.

 

The research institute cooperates with many universities at home and abroad, including the University of Chicago, the University of Rochester Medical Center, the University of Austin, the Hong Kong Baptist University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, and the Northwest A&F University. In addition, the research office has established partnerships with some companies.

 

The research office undertakes the New Century Excellent Talents Support Program of the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Youth Project, the China Postdoctoral Special Funding Project, the Surface Project, the Shaanxi Provincial Natural Science Foundation and other scientific research projects, and has published more than 60 papers. Article, applying for more than 10 patents. Based on the tenet of “scientific research and educating people and scientific research people”, the research institute is committed to cultivating outstanding talents and revealing scientific truths. We sincerely hope to cooperate with more domestic and foreign scientific research workers and welcome the intention to engage in bone metabolism. Mechanobiology:

From the molecular, cellular, tissue and whole animal level to conduct the mechanism study of mesenchymal stem cells and osteoblast differentiation, load-bearing bone formation and skeletal system related diseases under different mechanical conditions. Choose mechanics sensitive genes (MACF1) and non-coding RNA (microRNA, LncRNA) as breakthrough points to study the molecular mechanism of bone formation while mechanical loading alters.Our research team has established conditional knockout mouse models (fl/fl,Prrx1/+; fl/fl, sp7/+) disrupting MACF1 expression in pre-osteoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells, MACF1 knockin mice through ROSA26 locus and mir-138 transgenicmouse models.

 

Epigenetic Research on Bone Metabolism Disorders and Nucleic Acid Drug Development:

Focus on osteoporosis, osteoma, osteoarthritis and other bone related disease, evaluate the epigenetic changes of these diseases; screen nucleic acid or small molecule drugs. To be specific, MACF1 was taken as the star molecule, its natural antisense RNA (MACF1AS) was screened; and microRNA/lncRNA that associated with bone metabolism disorder were selected as well to uncover their involvement of bone metabolism diseases; further nucleic acid or small molecule drugs will be developed to prevent and treat metabolic bone diseases.

 

Human Machine and Environment Engineering:

We devote ourselves to “the impact of special physical environment (electromagnetic radiation, noise, vibration, ultrasound) on the health of special operations personnel”. According to the biological effects, the drugs for preventing and controlling the harm of special physical environment to human will be developed, and the protection for people will be achieved. Our research include: the effects of special physical environment on operators; biological effect assessment of special physical environment and protection policy draft; establish biological safety standards of various electromagnetic radiation physical environment.
