The School of Life Sciences and Ningdong Forestry Bureau of Shaanxi Province jointly established the Qinling Field Practice Base

In order to promote the reform of practical teaching, build a special talent training base and improve the quality of talent training. On the morning of June 13, the School of Life Sciences of NPU and Ningdong Forestry Bureau of Shaanxi Province held a signing ceremony for the Qinling Field Practice Base. Niu Weining, Assistant Dean of the School of Life Sciences of NPU, teachers Dang Kai and Jiang Shanfeng from the Experimental Teaching Center, Fu Wenjun, director of the Xunyangba Management Office of the Ningdong Forestry Bureau of Shaanxi Province, and main leaders of the management office attended the signing ceremony of the internship base.

At the signing ceremony, Niu Weining pointed out that the establishment of the practice base is an important improvement for the practical teaching of the School of Life Sciences, an important way for students to experience the characteristics of life sciences, and reflects the school's student-rooted education thought. Fu Wenjun extended his welcome to Niu Weining and his delegation, and reviewed the Ningdong Forestry Bureau's construction work in the base over the years.He expressed the hope that the two sides will take this opportunity to carry out long-term cooperation to provide support for the rational development and utilization of biological resources and the effective protection of biological diversity.

After the meeting, Niu Weining and his entourage from the School of Life Sciences, led by Fu Wenjun, visited the construction of the base on the spot, and communicated with them on student safety issues, base management, board and lodging and other issues.

The field practice base is located on the southern slope of the middle section of the Qinling Mountains. The terrain in the territory is complex and changeable, with high mountains and deep valleys. The main girder of The Qinling Mountains spans the northern boundary, with yuehe beam and Pinghe beam crossing it. The highest elevation is 2964.6 meters, the lowest is 598 meters, and the relative elevation difference is more than 2370 meters. The climate is subtropical mountain climate, with obvious transitional and vertical changes, distinct seasons, mild climate, wet and rainy. The area under its jurisdiction is densely forested and rich in wild animal and plant resources. There are 1830 species of plants, of which there are 124 families, 458 genera, and 1235 species of seed plants, accounting for 78.5%, 50.9% and 42.1% of the total number of families, genera and species of seed plants in Qinling Mountains. There are 19 species of plants under state key protection, including taxus chinensis under state key protection, Taxus chinensis under state key protection, Picea neoveitchii under state key protection and Other 18 species of fir eucommia chinensis under state key protection.There are 289 species of wild animals in the forest area. There are 6 species of national first-class protected animals such as giant panda, golden monkey, antelope, golden eagle, forest musk deer, and leopard. 22 species of second-class key protected animals are known as the "species gene bank". It provides excellent conditions for field animal and plant practice for undergraduates in the School of Life Sciences.
